During the familiarization trip of the Region of Attica in collaboration with the “Attica Wine & Food experience” product club, our first visit took place in the small family-run Gikas winery, in the area of Spata in Attica. The Gikas family have been creating outstanding variety of wines for four generations, since 1875, in a cobblestone complex with a very imposing entrance resembling an old tower. There, the visitor has the chance to enjoy white Greek Malagousia and Assyrtiko wines, as well as red ones made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah varieties.

We were guided in this family-run winery by the friendly daughter of the owner, at first in a small room-cellar with barrels and tanks and, then, outside, at the inner yard with the inox tanks. We continued in the cobblestone building for a short presentation about the vineyards and the history of the winery, and we ended up in the cobblestone hall for wine tasting accompanied with local products and traditional pies. There, we enjoyed delicious flavors in a cozy environment decorated as a cottage. We had also the chance to have a chat with the owners, as well as with other partner winemakers, such as Mr. S. Koulocheris of the Domaine Evinos and Sotiris Gkinis from «AOTON», who offered their own wine products for tasting. The last surprise from our cute hostess on our way out was the wine tasting directly from the inox tank in the inner yard!

The Gikas Winery is open to visitors for wine tasting or for buying the Gikas products every weekday, as well as on weekends by appointment.
