Is it possible to be a tourist at your own place?

Yes it is, and this is exactly how I feel lately!!

Having left my home-country recently and moving to Germany was actually very exciting for me. Having a new home town and the amazing Central Europe just a few steps away to explore, my new daily life was at least more than intriguing. Therefore, I am really looking forward to the endless future experiences and the new place I am going to live in.

Soooo, here I am…in Augsburg, one of the most beautiful & colorful German towns. It is the third-largest (after Munich and Nuremberg) in Bavaria (the largest state in southeastern Germany bordering Liechtenstein, Austria and the Czech Republic) and Germany’s third oldest city (after Neuss and Trier), being founded by the Romans and named after the Roman emperor “Augustus”. The city, located on the Romantic Road, offers numerous places of interest such us museums, cathedrals, fountains from the Renaissance era, the Fuggerei (the oldest social settlement in the world), botanical gardens and many many more. Built in a Renaissance style, the lovely old town situated over the canals of the river Lech, is one of the most beautiful city centers I have visited to date.

My everyday sights are now multicolored! My daily walk reminds me of a fairy-tale: passing through cobblestone streets with colorful Renaissance style houses, canals, creeks, parks and wide roads having no traffic at all. The transportation is easy and convenient, with trams and buses being used mostly, so actually there are only few cars in the city center. The weather is not so much different than that of my hometown in Greece, just a little bit colder. This year it was actually quite warm compared to previous years (according to locals), but I am lucky enough to enjoy the snowy Bavarian winter for a few days.
